Our History |
Music was first taught in the Franklin Academy (1881-1922) at Dupee Music Hall, the academy's music building. The Dupee Music Hall is the only remaining building from the original Academy and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Several alumni of the Franklin Academy served in World War I and later graduates of the Franklin High School served in World War II. Personal accounts from Franklin residents state that the band was very dedicated to recognizing alumni who were serving in the wars and often staged performances of patriotic music for deployments and homecomings of the servicemen.
The Franklin Flyer Band started in 1891 under the direction of Mrs. Linda Thompson. In the band's 124 year long history, it has performed in places like Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Walt Disney World. Now in it's 125th year, the band still stands for excellence in music. We hope you enjoy our quasquicentennial anniversary season! |
